Unconventional Headshots from A San Diego Photographer

With Social Media running rapid, I think that it is ill-advised not to have a headshot and a good one at that. Just like a business today, not having an Internet presence, does not make smart business sense. From a potential employee standpoint having an unconventional headshot from A San Diego Photographer can make or break you.

Let’s face it, your face is your brand. Where do potential employers go when they have your resume in front of them, the Internet and more importantly LinkedIn. Next step on your his or her list is Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Your human resource department will want to go out of their way to get to know you more intimately. Here are some additional tips that may help you:

Make sure the picture is clear and shows your face.

Be properly groomed. (** Note: Remember the 3 S’s: shower, … and shave. **)

Wear appropriate clothing geared to the position you are aspiring for.

Bring an extra change of clothing or at least another shirt to change into.

The picture should be easy to see and not too dark or bright.

If shooting outside, remember to monitor the sun and white balance.

Use Google to search to see others headshots and what appeals to you. Remember, it’s your shoot.

Do not use social pictures for your profile pictures, it looks unprofessional and makes it look like your social life comes before work.

Don’t have alcohol, smoking, or drugs in your pictures. I hope I don’t need to explain this one.

And last but not least, Clean and inventory your equipment the day before. You don’t want to arrive on location, just to find out that your lenses have seen better days or your forgot to bring extra batteries. Remember my slogan Be Prepared, because you never know what will go wrong.

It isn’t rocket science, just use common sense when taking your profile picture and remember what look you are trying to achieve. You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars for a professional photographer; you can do it yourself. Just don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

I hope I have not bored you too much. I had a lot of fun writing this one like all of my blogs. I trust I have given you some valuable tips to think about, before planning your next shoot. It’s not all bad, just be clear and informative, it will save you a lot of headaches. Remember nothing is set in stone and there is not a perfect formula, so go out and have some fun.
