San Diego Model Photographer

This last weekend was one of my most bizarre experiences. I was on an outing to the beach and decided that take my big camera with me, in case I came across some interesting sites. However, as a San Diego Model Photographer, I was not expecting to do a photoshooot, while out with the family.

This was one of those situations, when I was not prepared, since it was Mother’s Day and yes,  I know, it is a first. I grabbed my Nikon D3 and my Tamron 24-70mm lens with me. I took some beach shots, as well as some pictures of the kids, like I usually do, but while walking back to the car I was approached by a German woman, named Marina that asked me if I would not mind taking some photographs of models wearing her jewelry. Ok, now for me things like this never happen. I usually get the “Oh, do you mind taking some pictures of my kids and e-Mailing them to me?” and that is about it. I had no flashes or reflectors with me, so this was going to be a tough one. It seems her main photographer was a not show and I seemed to be in the right place at the right time. So, I handed her one of my business cards and asked her how long she needed me for. She informed me that the shoot would take about 30 minutes, so I walked down the hill to meet the models and we headed off for the shooting location.

The models were composed of 4 women and one man, which is rare to have a male model, but not a bad thing. There was a videographer taking videos of the shoot, why I am not sure. Unfortunately, since I did not drive my car I had no model release forms on me. So, I instructed the jeweler that I did not have any on me, but she gave me a verbal ok, which was fine with me. When she finally e-Mails me for the pictures, I will be sure to get a written “ok”, just in case. One can never be too careful. Too make a long story short, the 30 minute shoot turned into 1 1/2 hours, but that’s ok. I had a great time. We shot in a few different locations to mix it up. The main focus was the jewelry, but I think the model ended up being the focus. The models were fun to work with and we even had a car in the shoot, which was a little surprising. I did not have enough business cards to go around, but I am hoping that the that the model will be able to get their pictures, as I know they were looking to build their portfolio.

I hope I have not bored you too much. I had fun writing this one. I trust I have given you some valuable tips to think about, before planning your next shoot. It’s not all bad, just be clear and informative, it will save you a lot of headaches. Remember nothing is set in stone and there is not perfect formula, so go out and have some fun.
