I know alot of people believe in Karma and I do as well. I think what goes around comes around should be instilled in people; especially these days. Plus, I have been trying to keep up with my New Year’s Resolution for this year. As a San Diego Event Photographer, I try and volunteer whenever possible; even if I cannot make it, for the entire duration.
I started volunteering at the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, back in 2014, as a way to give back, using the skills I had gone to school for. One of the bonuses, I had was that I was able to assist in Information Technology related projects as well as photography. Helping out allowed me to keep current in my industry and build my photography portfolio, as well as receive positive reviews on my various social media sites. Here are some additional incentives/tips for volunteering:
Pick a place to volunteer that you are passionate about.
Be prepared to complete a background check.
Bring a current resume and references.
Volunteering gives you the opportunity to give back to the community and a good cause.
Allows you to meet and build relationships with new people, in an informal setting.
Looks good on your resume and LinkedIn profile.
Fills in gaps, while in a job transition.
This blog didn’t go in the complete direction I was hoping for, but I think it is important. Many organizations are limited on funding and depend on volunteers for many services; everything from answering phones and stuffing envelopes to project management. Your services will help many, even though you may never meet he or she.
I hope I have not bored you too much. I had a lot of fun writing this one like all of my blogs. I trust I have given you some valuable tips to think about. It’s not all bad, just be clear and informative, it will save you a lot of headaches. Remember nothing is set in stone and there is not a perfect formula, so go out and have some fun.
