San Diego Boudoir Photography

I would say there are quite a few reasons that a woman would be interested in boudoir pictures, for her and or her significant other. I say women, because here in the United States it is mainly women. I’m not saying that only women can do it, because I believe in equal rights. I did discover a few male boudoir studios; unfortunately they were in Europe. Here are some additional reasons for using San Diego Boudoir Photography that I discovered during my research:

Some wish to spice of their sex life.
Celebrate being single.
Capture being in great place.
Honor your weight loss.
Commemorate your years of service (Military).
Feel empowered.
Heal from domestic violence.
Women get to get all dolled up.
You find assets you never knew you had.
Boudoir sessions are fun.
You get to be creative with you outfits.
You get to be yourself.
See yourself in a different light.

I was asked by a close friend if I could do boudoir shoot for her. I had done lingerie shoots on several occasions and was no stranger to seeing the female form, in its purist form. I have to say, I was excited, honored, and stressed in one swoop. Excited because, this would be my first shoot by myself and I was responsible for everything: the lighting, the setup, the outfits, and the poses. I was honored, because she had trusted me to take her pictures and keep them confidential. I have heard horror stories about unscrupulous photographers leaking pictures to the Internet. And of course, I was stressed, because I was responsible for everything, which meant everything had to be perfect.

As you know, I am something of a perfectionist. I strive for it, in everything I do. I know that Photoshop is your friend, but if you don’t’ have a good base. I feel that manipulating the picture will be next to impossible, if not taking a very long time. My theory is, take a little extra time, test often, and get it right the first time. Which is what I did. I decided to do a dry run. Now my first choice for this type of shoot was a studio, because it is fairly large and everything is usually setup ready to go. Unfortunately, her husband would not permit me to use the studio. This shoot required me to shoot on location in someone’s bedroom, in a small bedroom with a King Size bed. I knew there were about 2 or 3 feet on either side of the bed and I would be using 2 flashes with shoot through umbrellas, in the 2 o’clock position. Since the model had a tattoo on her back, I wanted to capture that as well and for this I would use an additional flash and bounce it off the ceiling. I set all this up in the my living room, because I prefer to be prepared. After some adjustments with the flashes mainly zoom and timing and a little ISO on the camera. The lighting was perfect and no visible shadows on the model, Voilà! I was ready to shoot.

I hope I have not bored you too much. I had a lot of fun writing this one like all of my blogs. I trust I have given you some valuable tips to think about, before planning your next shoot. It’s not all bad, just be clear and informative, it will save you a lot of headaches. Remember nothing is set in stone and there is not a perfect formula, so go out and have some fun.
