Remember the Golden Hour

I know it has been awhile, since my last blog, but things have been a bit hectic. I am on the road every week and unfortunately do not have the opportunity to photography people as much. As a photographer, I get to see some amazing things that I really would love to share, but I am not allowed to; however no matter where I am the app on my phone reminds me when the Golden Hour will occur.

Last week, I had the opportunity to photography one of my former co-workers, from Gerardy Photography, a lovely girl by the name of Claire. Claire was a Project Lead that I had the pleasure of working with on a couple of sites. One of the nice things about working with Claire, other than she is an attractive woman is that she has prior modeling experience, which means that she knows what she is doing and is easy to work with. Most models can be a handful, let’s just leave it at that. We originally were only supposed to shoot one day, but due to a time issues, aka “the Golden Hour” we decided to shoot the following day as well, just earlier. The area that we were supposed to shoot was covered and the background was painted in high sheen paint, which means that it was glossy paint. This caused the flashes to reflect the light directly, which caused an undesirable look. Adjusting the flashes settings did not have any effect and umbrellas were not available, so I did the next best thing. I turned the flashes off. This of course meant that I had to adjust the camera for a lower light. I did this by adjusting the aperture to a 5.6, shutter speed to 1/100th of a second, and raised the ISO to 1000. I did not want to raise the ISO any higher because it would start to appear graining, which was not the effect I was going for. All in all the pictures turned out nice, after some minor tweaking in Lightroom and the client was pleased.

I hope I have not bored you too much. I had a lot of fun writing this one like all of my blogs. I trust I have given you some valuable tips to think about, before planning your next shoot. It’s not all bad, just be clear and informative, it will save you a lot of headaches. Remember nothing is set in stone and there is not a perfect formula, so go out and have some fun.
