Keeping Your Chin Up

I know this isn’t my normal type of blog, where I tell you tell you a nice story, be prepared, or that I hope I don’t bore you too much. This blog is more personal and from the heart. It’s about trying to keep your chin up. And no, I’m not going to sing Barry Manilows song, “Feelings”.

We all go through difficult times in our life, from time to time. I, myself thought this would be the best year of my life. I just got married, my photography business was picking up and I finally figured out the kinks with my full time job. I was on top of the world and then things started to crumble. When things go south, we tend to forget our passions and happiness. Those things are put on the back burner, in hopes of making an appearance some other time during the century. Life is hard and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise or minimize your situation or feelings. Sometimes, it is difficult to “get in the mood”. If you are down in the dumps, first of all you’re not alone; the more I talk with people, the more I find out; that his or her life wasn’t that perfect; it was just an act, for Facebook and other social media outlets.  Here are some tips that might help you out:

If you need serious help, pick up the phone and dial 911.

If it’s less serious, talk with a doctor or counselor.

If it’s just a bad day, a good friend or friends may be able to lend a hand.

Try and find joy or happiness, in your environment.

List some positive attributes about yourself and repeat them every day in front of your mirror.

Spend your time with upbeat and positive people; discard the negative people in your life.

Reserve a day to do absolutely nothing, just for yourself.

Set yourself some easily obtainable goals and celebrate when you achieve one.

Go out and meet new people/make some new friends.

Join a volunteer group or a Meetup. Helping others is a great way to take your mind of your issues for a second.

Heal and work on yourself.

I know life can be difficult, when you’re going through a slump and it seems; as if the whole world is against you. It feels as if you’re in quicksand and the more you struggle and fight, the deeper you get. Just know you’re not alone, you may have a support system closer than you think.

I hope I have not bored you too much. I had a lot of fun writing this one like all of my blogs. I trust, I have given you some valuable tips to think about, before planning your next shoot. It’s not all bad, just be clear and informative, it will save you a lot of headaches. Remember nothing is set in stone and there is not a perfect formula, so go out and have some fun.
